Honoring Heroes: A Landscape Rooted in Legacy

CFD landscape project

Some projects go beyond design—they carry heart, history, and hometown pride. That was the case when we were invited to help honor the legacy of the Cedarburg Fire Department (CFD), a cornerstone of the community since 1866. With a deep reverence for their rich history and a vision for the future, La Rosa Landscape Company was proud to help bring that tribute to life.

CFD wanted a space that didn’t just commemorate the past but celebrated the spirit of service passed down through generations. They dreamed of a statue as the centerpiece—crafted by a local artist—that would speak to the soul of their mission. As a then-Captain of the department, this project became a personal labor of love for Mike La Rosa. His connection to the fire service shaped a design that would echo through time.

The result? A statue titled “Generations”—featuring three firemen: one representing the past (a respected chief), one from the present (a modern-day firefighter ready for action), and one full of promise for the future (a young boy in an oversized coat, gripping a firehose pouring water into a beautifully crafted fountain). This trio stands not only as a tribute—but as a powerful symbol of how the CFD continues to inspire.

La Rosa Landscape Company worked closely with the artist to create a foundation worthy of such a piece. A thick slab of limestone, carefully prepared with mounts and plumbing, allows the boy’s hose to cascade into the fountain. At the park’s entrance, a circular layout reflects the CFD patch, welcoming visitors into a place of honor, reflection, and peace.

Seat walls invite guests to sit quietly with the sound of water or gaze out over Cedar Creek. Mature river birches now grace each end of the park, creating a natural embrace around the tribute. A large plaque recognizes the generous donors and dedicated individuals who made it all possible.

Though the park belongs to the city, it was built entirely with private funds—a heartfelt gift to the community it serves. Like the historic buildings of downtown Cedarburg, this space was designed to endure and inspire for generations to come.

We’re incredibly proud of our role in this legacy—helping to shape the spaces where community thrives and memories are made.
